UZN: Disintegration

Posted in event / project, experimental, UZN on October 16, 2011 by Francois Wunschel

The final party. Time to blow the project.
With our friends from CENC, we organized a riot.
Junk car, baseball bats, smoke, chicken feathers, stroboscopes, videomapping, punks.
Of course we ended up arrested by the police.

UZN: DMX light controller app

Posted in software, UZN with tags on August 26, 2011 by Francois Wunschel

With the help of KnM Artnet tools, I did a tiny app to visually controll all the DMX lighting of the installation.
The light zones are clickable, and also responding to MIDI signals coming from Ableton Live.

UZN: testing MadMapper’s Space Scanner

Having just one night to set up a video installation proved to be easier than expected.
With the help of MAdMapper’s Space Scanner tool, we were able to get a pixel precise view of the projection surfaces, and use this as a handy background to draw our lines and quads.
With this background, the productivity was greatly increased.
Although the lighting situation was far from prefect (no possibility to turn of the traffic lights, lots of people passing by, shaky tripod… etc), the resulting image were clean enough to be useful.
For each projector, I did 3 different shots, using different settings, then composited the 3 pictures together to keep only the cleaner parts.
Verdict: the closer you can get to ISO 100 is better, as you get less artifacts/noise.
Here’s the result: (using a triple head setup)

Getting ready for the Grand Opening of UZN in Geneva, this friday.
The structure is rooted, lights are placed.
Now we need some projectors… waiting for 3x 20k.

It will be a good opportunity to test MadMapper’s Space Scanner function.
We’re pretty excited !
